Artist's Statement
Thank you for visiting my website! I am primarily an oil painter. However, I do
enjoy dabbling in a variety of media. I became an oil painter because of my love
for the precision and clarity which can be rendered through this medium. The
type of art which I enjoy producing is based in classical realism. I feel that
art should be a reflection of beauty and I am particularly concerned with using
form, light, shadow and color as a means to achieve this goal. I find being able
to create the illusion of a three dimensional object on a one dimensional
surface highly challenging and at the same time extraordinarily gratifying.
Artist's Biography And Working Methods
My love for creating began in early childhood. My first love was
pencil and oil pastels during those years. Drawing and sketching my pets and
beloved objects was a favorite activity.
I am primarily self taught in this field relying on reading and experimentation
in the studio to advance my studies. The works of the old masters are a
wellspring of information as well as inspiration for my learning. Some of my
favorites include: Sargent, Bouguereau, Caravaggio, J. W. Waterhouse and Fechin.
I possess two collegiate degrees in Social Work. My Masters is from Temple
University and my Bachelors from Widener University.
My process methods involve working directly from life as well as from
photographs. Using digital photography, I capture my subject. I use various
manual drafting techniques along with computer technology to manipulate my
subjects. My favorite techniques vary by subject and desired outcome. I utilize
old master style techniques such as detailed underpaintings and layering
multiple glazes in order to produce some of my effects. I use direct painting
techniques as well.
I reside in Upstate New York with my family and produce my work from my home
studio. If you are interested in obtaining my work, please feel free to contact
